Owlbury for iPhone and iPad · Last updated 31 October 2026

In short: we don’t collect your name, email address, study progress or any account details. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. The only things that leave your device are the update check described below and any email you choose to send us.

Who we are

Owlbury is made by Rui Manuel Paiva de Aguiar Mamede, an independent developer in the United Kingdom (“we”). You can contact us at support@owlbury.co.uk.

Your study progress

Your answers, mock test results, flashcard schedule and settings (such as your test date) are stored only on your device, inside the app. They are included in your device’s iCloud or computer backups if you have backups turned on; those backups are handled by Apple under your Apple account, and we cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes this data, and “Reset all progress” in Settings erases it at any time.

App updates

So that corrections to questions and notes reach you quickly, the app checks for an update when it starts and when you return to it (at most every 30 minutes). It uses Expo’s update service (EAS Update, run by 650 Industries, Inc. in the United States), which processes this data for us. Each check includes:

This is used only to send the right update and to give us counts of how many installations received an update and whether it started correctly. We can’t see your identifier or IP address, and none of it is linked to your identity or used for advertising or tracking. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in giving you correct study material. Expo keeps this data as described in its privacy policy: expo.dev/privacy.

Notifications

If you turn on study reminders, they are scheduled on your device by iOS. No push notification service or server is involved, and you can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.

Emails you send us

If you contact us, for example with “Report a problem” (which opens your own email app with the question number filled in), we receive what you choose to send: your email address and your message. We use it only to reply and to correct the app’s content, we never share it, and we delete it once it is no longer needed. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

Children

The app is a study aid for adults preparing for the Life in the UK test. It doesn’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. In practice that is only emails you have sent us: the update service’s records use a random identifier that we can’t link to you. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever started collecting any further data, we would say so here and in the App Store’s privacy details before that version is released.

Owlbury is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Home Office or HM Government.
